บ้านวอร์มวู้ดอยู่ในภาวะสงบเงียบได้เพียงแค่อาทิตย์หลังจบเรื่องราวซุปเปอร์กาว 

ทำให้มิสเตอร์ วอร์มวู้ดเลิกคุยโวโอ้อวดเลิกหาเรื่องกับมาทิลด้า

แต่ไม่ทันไรเขาก็เริ่มหาเรื่องอีกแล้วบางทีอาจจะขายรถไม่เป็นไปตามเป้าหมาย มีเรื่องราวที่ทำให้เขาโมโหเมื่อกลับถึงบ้านในตอนเย็น และภรรยาของเขาก็สัมผัสได้ว่าเขาอารมณ์ไม่ดีก็เลยปล่อยให้เขาอยู่ตามลำพังจนกว่าจะอารมณ์ดีขึ้น

เมื่อมิสเตอร์ วอร์มวู้ด กลับมาถึงบ้านหลังจากเลิกงานที่อู่ อย่างหน้าดำคร่ำเครีดต้องมีใครโดนหางเลขสักคนเป็นแน่แท้  ภรรยาของเขาจำได้เลย อาการแบบนี้ ส่งสัญญาณไม่ดีแน่ๆ หล่อนกลัวมาก

   เขาเดินสาวเท้ายาวเข้าไปที่ห้องนั่งเล่น มาทิลดานั่งเล่นอยู่บนโซฟาที่มุมห้อง กำลังอ่านหังสืออยู่พอดี
มิสเตอร์ วอร์มวู้ดปิดทีวี หน้าจอดับไป  เขามองไปที่มาทิลดา เธอไม่ได้ขยับ เธอฝึกตัวเองในตอนนี้เลย
บล๊อกหูป้องกันเสียงอันน่ากลัว เธอยังคงนั่งอ่านหนังสือต่อไป นี่ก็เป็นอีกเหตุผลหนึ่งที่ทำให้พ่อยิ่งเพิ่มความโมโหมากขึ้น ที่เห็นลูกมีความสุขกับการอ่านหนังสือ

"นี่เธอยังไม่หยุดอ่านหนังสืออีกเหรอ" เขาพูดด้วยความโมโห
"โอ้ สวัสดีค่ะ คุณพ่อ" เธอพูดกับพ่อด้วยความรู้สึกที่ดี "วันนี้พ่อมีความสุขกับการทำงานมั้ยค่ะ?"
"นี่มันอะไรไร้ประโยชน์"เขาพูดพร้อมกับดึงหนังสือออกไปจากมือของเธอ
"มันไม่ไร้สาระนะพ่อ มีนดีออก  มันชื่อว่า the red pony. ม้าน้อยสีแดง  แต่งโดย Jonh Steinbeck เป็นของนักเขียน ชาวอเมริกัน  ทำไมพ่อไม่ลองอ่านดูบ้างค่ะ บางทีพ่ออาจจะชอบมันก็ได้นะคะ"
"ขยะแขยง "มิสเตอร์ วอร์มวู้ด พูดออกมา ถ้าเป็นของ อเมริกัน ฉันขยะแขยง  เขียนออกมาไม่ได้เรื่อง"

Using the telephone

Vocabulary

Expression / Meaning

Dial = press(push)the numbers on a telephone to call somebody

Hold the line = wait

Hang up = end a telephone conversation and put the phon down

Reach = connect and communicate  /get in touch / speck

Pick up =  lift the phone and start to use it; opposite of hang up

Call back = call again

Phone line = connection to a telephone system

Voice mail = electronic telephone answering system

Mailbox = part of a voice mail system where caller can leave a voice message.

Extention = two or more telephone that have the same phone number and are connected to a switchboard,usually in a large company or office( Example: ext.2767)

Telephone  Noises , signals And Sounds

Name of sound

Dial tone.    =    You hear this when you pick up your phone to being to call someone.

Busy signal = you hear this repeating in tone when you cannot reach the person you are trying to call because they are already using their phone line.

Ring tone = you hear this when someone calling you.  It might be part of the song.

Beep /Tone = This is short sound giving one or more times to tell you to being recording your message on an answering machine or mail system.

Vibrate = This isn't a sound. It's the setting you use on your cellphone when you don't want it to ring. Instead,It will shake to signal that someone is calling you.
